Organising Night Club Security: 3 Things to Consider

Posted on: 21 November 2017

If you are planning to open a new nightclub, you will want to ensure that you have the proper security in place to ensure that every one of your customers can have a safe and enjoyable evening. As well as protecting your customers, good security arrangements will also protect your business. If your nightclub is a location where illegal acts are committed, it is highly likely that the local authorities will remove your licence to operate.

Doormen

Traditionally, doormen were seen as nothing more than big guys who were being paid to look for a fight. However, while it may have been this way in the past, modern security companies now provide a professional service. Doormen are trained to de-escalate a situation before it becomes violent and to only use reasonable force if they need to restrain somebody. Doormen are also your first line of defence against underage drinkers, as they can spot anyone in line for the club who looks underage and request ID before they enter the club.

Drug Dogs

Drugs can cause real problems for nightclub owners. If illegal drugs are being sold on your premises, you run the risk of being shut down by the police. In 2016, the nightclub Candy's Apartment in Sydney was closed down due to drug dealing. While you may not be able to afford to use drug detection dogs every weekend, it is worth calling one in to carry out checks now and again. A drug dog is specially trained to sniff out illegal drugs and will give a signal to its handler when it does so. You should position the drug dog so it can sniff the line of people as they wait to enter the club. Once this signal is given, the handler can inform the doormen who can request to search the person or can refuse them entry. Even if the dog does not manage to catch everyone bringing drugs into your club, its mere presence can be enough to put people off and prevent them from attempting to use or deal.

CCTV

Finally, if an incident such as a fight or a drug deal does occur in your nightclub, it can often be challenging to identify those responsible due to the low light, loud music and large crowds. Installing CCTV inside your nightclub can make it easier to identify anyone who is posing a security risk.
